Zcash Approaches $500 as Cypherpunk Technologies Reports $39.4M Q2 Net Income
Zcash (ZEC) is trading near the psychologically important $500 level, rising 2.7% in the past 24 hours to roughly $495. The move comes as institutional accumulation and infrastructure developments continue to support the privacy-focused digital asset.
The catalyst for the latest price action is a quarterly earnings release from Cypherpunk Technologies, an investment firm with a concentrated ZEC portfolio. The company reported a net income of $39.4 million in the second quarter, a sharp reversal from the $16.6 million loss recorded in the same period last year. The bulk of the gain came from a $46 million unrealized gain on its ZEC holdings as the token rallied from $243.35 to $400.09 during the quarter. Despite this, the firm still posted a $4.7 million operating loss, highlighting that asset revaluation, not core operations, drove profitability.
As of June 30, Cypherpunk valued its Zcash treasury at $129.4 million based on the quarter-end price of $400.09. By August 11, the firm disclosed owning 323,394.38 ZEC purchased at an average cost of $341.83. That position represents roughly 1.92% of Zcash's total circulating supply, which is capped at 21 million coins. The continued accumulation by the firm signals strong conviction in Zcash's long-term value proposition, especially as privacy-oriented crypto assets gain traction among institutional investors seeking differentiated exposure.
The price action around $500 is critical for ZEC, as a decisive break above that level could open the door to further upside. The token has been consolidating in recent weeks, and the combination of institutional buying and a tightening supply narrative—given the fixed supply cap—could act as a tailwind. Traders are watching whether Cypherpunk's strategic positioning will attract other large holders to follow suit.
